Norwegian Majesty tangles with yachts in St. George's Harbor, Bermuda (05.10.05)
As our cruise ship entered the harbor it seemed to experience problems in station keeping due to the high winds gusting from its starboard side. The ship appeared to be operating full thrusters on its port side in a vain attempt to keep away from the yachts moored nearby, just outside the navigation channel. Apparently our cruise ship ensnared some of the anchor lines of a few of the yachts. As our ship drifted forward these yachts got dragged closer to our ship.
One yacht had a crew aboard that was able to detach their anchor line and move safely away. The other yacht only had one person aboard and he wasn't the yacht's owner and didn't know how to free the anchor line and move away. That yacht collided with the port side of our ship before the rescuing police launch could render assistance. In the end we required the assistance of a tug to move our cruise ship to a safe mooring at the dock.
